Rosie’s House, a Musical Academy for Children, wins!

GOVERNORS ARTS AWARDS 2014

Rosie’s House is this year’s winner of the Arts Education Organization award, and they will be the new owners of my painting, Birds in Wigs! The music lessons are provided to low income children, of which 97% go on to attend college, quite an accomplishment as well as a strong argument that music and arts in general are a valuable part of education, and life.

Rosie’s House provides free music education to low-income children.  During 2013, Rosie’s House served 400 disadvantaged students and presented 56 events, attracting audiences that totaled nearly 4,600 students, families and community supporters.  Accredited by the National Guild for Community Arts Education, Rosie’s House is one of the largest free afterschool music programs in the country.  Rosie’s House provides instruction, a loaned instrument, curriculum and performance opportunities and teaches piano, strings and winds as well as offering Choir and Mariachi training ensembles.  In the past three years, 97% of students graduating from Rosie’s House enrolled in college. – See more at: http://www.azarts.gov/news-resources/news/2014-arizona-governors-arts-awards-art-for-arts-sake/#sthash.l2korAum.dpuf
